WORK LOCATION: New Braunfels, Texas

Summary

As a member of the Communications team, the Communications Specialist is responsible for supporting the implementation of the annual communications plan. In this position, the candidate’s primary function is to create internal and external written copy that aligns with GBRA brand standards and the organization’s overall strategic plan. This position reports to the Executive Manager of Communications.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Assist Executive Manager of Communications with development and implementation of the annual communications plan and social media strategy.
  • Serve as the copywriter for press releases, media advisories, crisis management, blogs, scripts, company intranet, internal newsletter, daily news clips, employee emails, emergency management system, advertising, social media and website.
  • Compile and organize content for GBRA publications including the resource guide and fact sheets.
  • Develop project-specific scenario plans and talking points.
  • Establish and maintain media lists.
  • Utilize third-party media monitoring service and email vendor to capture and report media coverage to board members, leadership, and employees.
  • Respond appropriately to media and stakeholder questions in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with Media Specialist on social media strategy, annual calendar and content creation.
  • Coordinate communication and design request needs from other departments utilizing a request ticket system.
  • Provide guidance and training to GBRA colleagues on branding, social media, and communication and design requests.
  • Provide other assistance as directed by the Executive Manager of Communications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Writing samples will be requested.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools required (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams), Constant Contact, Meltwater, Sprout Social, and social media applications (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, X).
  • Familiarity with Adobe software is a plus (InDesign, Illustrator, and Adobe Acrobat Pro).
  • Copy edit, proofread and revise communications.
  • Work under steady pressure with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to work cross functionally within GBRA as well as with outside vendors, and partner organizations.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to write using AP format writing style.
  • Ability to meet goals and objectives on schedule.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality relating to internal operations of GBRA, in communications with GBRA board members, colleagues, and external stakeholders.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism or related field preferred.

Current valid driver license and ability to remain insurable under GBRA’s vehicle liability policy.

Experience

5+ years of experience in communications, journalism, internal communications or related field to include experience with print, broadcast, media relations and digital media. Background working in water subject matter is a plus.

TRAVEL

May be required to travel up to 30 percent of the time within GBRA’s 10-county district and extended areas to attend conferences, tradeshows, trainings, or meetings, and for photo/video shoots.
